Hello Wonderful Zeno Families!
It is our goal to continue to spark joy and inspire a love of math. You can engage your children in each math concept before they even receive their games! Let's explore the math concept of Subitizing.
Subitizing Activities
- Talk about the produce you see when at the grocery store. For example, “I have 5 apples in my cart. I saw 3 apples and 2 apples, so I know I have 5 all together.”
- When getting dressed, “My coat has 7 buttons. I know that because I saw 4 buttons on top and 3 on bottom, so there are 7 buttons total.”
- Play I Spy and focus on groups of objects. For example: “I spy 2 oven mitts, or I spy 4 crayons.” Take turns to encourage your child to subitize as well.
- Put a specific number of food items on your child's plate. Show your child the plate, and then quickly cover it with a napkin. Ask your child, “How many items were on my plate?” Try again with a different number of food items.
- When cleaning up ask your child, “Can you tell me how many shoes are left out?” See if your child can tell you how many without having to count. Try again with a new item that you are cleaning up.
- When reading a book, point out a specific number of objects. “There are 3 stars, I see 2 on this side and 1 on that side.”

Nuestro objetivo es continuar generando alegría e inspirando el amor por las matemáticas. ¡Puede involucrar a sus hijos en cada concepto matemático incluso antes de que reciban sus juegos! Exploremos el concepto matemático de Subitizando.
Activities de Subitizando
- Hable sobre los productos que ve cuando está en el supermercado. Por ejemplo, “Tengo 5 manzanas en mi carrito. Vi 3 manzanas y 2 manzanas, así que sé que tengo 5 en total”.
- Al vestirse, “Mi abrigo tiene 7 botones. Lo sé porque vi 4 botones en la parte superior y 3 en la parte inferior, por lo que hay 7 botones en total”.
- Veo, veo y concéntrate en grupos de objetos. Por ejemplo: “Veo 2 guantes para horno, o veo 4 crayones”. Túrnense para animar a su hijo a que también subitice.
