Hello Wonderful Zeno Families!
It is our goal to continue to spark joy and inspire a love of math. You can engage your children in each math concept before they even receive their games! Let's explore the math concept of Measurement.
Measurement Activities
- When at home compare the heights of each family member. Talk about the different ways your family can measure and compare their sizes. For example, you can ask, "Could you compare the size of clothes? ... Shoes?"
- Encourage your child to help you make a recipe. You can show them how to measure the food as they cook it. Include your child by letting them try to measure!
- At the sink or in the bath, provide your child with cups of different sizes. See how many cups it takes to fill up a container. You can estimate and talk about which cup can hold the most water with your child.
- Talk about the distance between yourself and an item. For example, “How many steps until I reach the couch” and begin to count your steps “1, 2, 3. 3 steps to the couch”.
- Keep track of your child’s growth, a younger sibling’s growth, or a plant. For example, "Let’s measure how tall our plant has gotten since last week.” And keep a weekly journal.
- Introduce the concept of time by timing how long something takes. For example, “Let’s see if you can brush your teeth during the time it takes for all the sand falls through the hourglass” or “Let’s set a timer to see how long it takes to wash our hands” or “Time to clean up, let’s see if we can clean all the toys up while we count to 10”

Activities de Medición
- Cuando estén en casa comparen las alturas de cada miembro de la familia. Hable sobre las diferentes formas en que su familia puede medir y comparar sus tallas. Por ejemplo, puede preguntar: "¿Podrías comparar el tamaño de la ropa? ... ¿Zapatos?".
- Anime a su hijo a que le ayude a hacer una receta. Puede mostrarles cómo medir la comida mientras la cocinan. ¡Incluya a su hijo dejándolo intentar medir!
- En el lavamanos o en la bañera, déle a su hijo tazas de diferentes tamaños. Vea cuántas tazas se necesitan para llenar un recipiente. Puede estimar y hablar sobre qué taza puede contener más agua con su hijo.
- Hable acerca de la distancia entre usted y un objeto. Por ejemplo, “Cuántos pasos hasta llegar al sofá” y empieza a contar tus pasos “1, 2, 3. 3 pasos hasta el sofá”.
- Lleve un registro del crecimiento de su hijo, el crecimiento de un hermano menor o una planta. Por ejemplo, "Vamos a medir qué tan alta ha crecido nuestra planta desde la semana pasada". Y lleven un diario semanal.
- Presente el concepto de tiempo cronometrando cuánto tarda algo.
