It is our goal to continue to spark joy and inspire a love of math. You can engage your children in each math concept before they even receive their games! Let's explore the math concept of Ordinal Numbers and Sequencing.
Ordinal Numbers + Sequencing Activities
- Talk about the steps in your cooking routine, “First, I pour the water in the pot to boil. Second, I add the rice to the pot. Third, I put the lid on the pot, and fourth, I set the timer for 30 minutes.”
- Talk about the order of washing your hands, “First, you turned on the faucet. Second, you put soap on your hands. Third, you scrubbed your hands. Fourth, you rinsed your hands, and fifth, you dried your hands!”
- Ask your child to describe the sequence of a familiar routine such as a morning routine or life cycle of an insect.
- Go over your schedule for the day, talk about what your child will do first, second, third, fourth, etc.
- Parent – child races! Have a race as a family using balls, people, or toy cars. See who finishes the race in first, second, third, etc.
- Talk with your child about how old they turn on each birthday. Ask your child “How old did you turn on your 2nd birthday? How old do you think you will turn on your 7th birthday?"

Activities de Números Ordinales y Secuenciación
- Hable acerca de los pasos en su rutina al cocinar, “Primero, vierto el agua en la olla para que hierva. Segundo, añado el arroz a la olla. Tercero, pongo la tapa en la olla, y cuarto, pongo el temporizador en 30 minutos…”
- Hable sobre el orden de lavarse las manos, “Primero, abriste el grifo. Segundo, te pones jabón en las manos. Tercero, te lavaste las manos. Cuarto, te enjuagaste las manos, y quinto, ¡te secaste las manos!”
- Pídale a su hijo que describa la secuencia de una rutina familiar, como la rutina matutina o el ciclo de vida de un insecto.
- Repase su horario para el día, hable sobre lo que su hijo hará primero, segundo, tercero, cuarto, etc.
- ¡Carreras de padres e hijos! Hagan una carrera en familia usando pelotas, personas o carros de juguete. Vean quién termina la carrera en primer, segundo, tercero, etc.
- Hable con su hijo sobre la edad que cumplirá. Pregúntele "¿Qué edad cumpliste en tu segundo cumpleaños? ¿Qué edad crees que cumplirás en tu séptimo cumpleaños?"
