SUMMARY:Math is Racial Equity
DESCRIPTION:In our Math is Racial Equity session we will introduce you to Zeno\, why we center racial equity\, and our Five Zeno Practices\, which are key for engaging families in the growing movement to spread the love of math. \n  \nREGISTER\n\n  \nPresenters:\nLead: Jermell Witherspoon \nProgram Manager\, Zeno \nJermell\, A native Seattleite is passionate about creating safe\, inclusive spaces of learning and growth for marginalized communities. Jermell has been actively involved in equity and inclusion work for over 10 years. Jermell is passionate about dismantling white-dominant systems of oppression that contribute to the killing of black bodies; bodies of color; and whole experiences of the global majority.  \nJermell is a program manager at Zeno and is passionate about pulling out the innate Brilliance of Children and families of color\, through Zeno’s work and learnings. Jermell believes that math is innately a part of our being and works hard to pull out the brilliance inside of every child he encounters.  \n\nGladys Reyes\nProgram Manager\, Zeno \nGladys has always had a passion for early learning! Even as a teen\, Gladys was working with young\, aged children and brings with her a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood and Family Studies with a minor in Diversity. She has worked as a preschool teacher and now works as a Program Manager at Zeno. She has combined her two passions of early learning and community building with her current work. Gladys works with communities across Washington state to further the conversation on what positive math looks like and the critical role racial equity plays in those conversations. \n  \nPablo Cohen\nProgram Specialist\, Zeno \nPablo was born and raised in Venezuela with international family connections. Pablo made a trip to Washington 4 years ago that ultimately resulted in his decision to make the Pacific Northwest his new home. He has dedicated his life as an educator from being an ESL teacher in Venezuela to a Preschool Lead Teacher at Bright Horizons in Seattle. Pablo’s passion as an educator is to foster a positive environment where children can learn and grow. Pablo gravitated towards Zeno’s racial equity lens of sparking joy through math experiences where communities of color can thrive. \n\nJuan Manuel Flores Jr.\nPrograms Director\, Zeno \nJuan is passionate about anti-oppression work that leads to collective liberation for Black and Brown communities.
