We have a Falcon in our office. For real.

Oh, and we also have a Hawk, a Redhawk and a Jayhawk.

But that’s not all…our avian friends are joined by a Husky and a Mustang. In the feline department, we have a Wildcat and a Monarch. (Yep, I said feline. This particular Monarch is one big kitty.)

More militaristically, we have a Viking and a Crusader. (Both fighters for good, though.) Luckily, we can also boast of a Brewer on hand, and our ranks were most recently joined by Prairie Fire and a Geoduck.

No matter what the mascot, we’re all quite proud of our college diplomas, which is why Zeno is participating today, October 16th, in the inaugural debut of DiscoverU. DiscoverU is a day in which schools and community-based organizations (*cough, Zeno, cough*) located in Seattle and South King County will band together to share excitement around college readiness and careers. Participating schools will take at least 10-15 minutes out of their day to do an exploration activity with kids. Educators and community members are encouraged to wear college gear and share their educational or career pathway with the students they serve.

So ask the children in your life what they did in school today for college and career readiness. And check out Zeno’s Facebook page later today for photos of staff modeling their college finery and talking about how their own pathway was influenced by doing math.

Finally who says that kids should have all the fun? In the comments section below, tell us the name or even post a photo or link to your alma mater’s mascot. To the most unique* mascot goes a $5 coffee card and a Zeno Play Math card deck.

*Uniqueness will be scientifically determined by staff consensus. Remember that we have a burrowing clam represented on our staff, so it’s a high bar being set. Winner determined by October 31, 2013.
