Seattle MathFest 2016
If you have never been to a MathFest before, you are in for a treat!
What’s MathFest all about?
MathFest is a community-wide celebration where children and families play carnival-like math games, win prizes and have fun. While playing, children and adults alike build their confidence in and enthusiasm for math. This year, Seattle MathFest will be on November 10th from 5-8pm at the Rainier Community Center.
What kind of games are played?
All of Zeno’s games are designed to encourage families to explore math through play. Early learners may play “Find Zeno Bear”, to practice their spatial reasoning skills; or “Measure It” where they will use their own footprints to size things up! Elementary age kids will be seen enjoying card, dice and many life size games. One of our most popular games is the Airplane Race, where players line up and roll giant dice to see who can make it to the end of the runway first.
What Do Kids Love About Mathfest?
Kids love the wide choice of games and the opportunity to act out math problems. They love the realization that math goes beyond worksheets and that they can actually have fun with it. For most kids, it is the first time they have been encouraged to play math, and it changes their perspective.
Sounds like the community comes together with MathFest!
Yes, MathFest provides a fun, family event for the whole community to enjoy! Here is what a past MathFest attendee had to say: “The math games were necessarily numerous and varied to help capture a wide range of interests, ages and abilities. I loved that it was so inclusive. Very impressive AND I loved having it in my south Seattle neighborhood. It brought together people from all over the city and state. Go south end!”
